Asafoetida is far from being a kitchen stinkbomb

While native to the Middle Eastern region and commonly used by the Romans, Asafoetida has been clearly a must-have in Indian cooking. Tasting like onions or leeks, Asafoetida, also known as Hing, adds an intense, savoury depth. It has a pungent odour when raw but mellows to a nice aroma when fried alone or with other spices. A little bit of funk for an unmatchable taste? We reckon that is a good trade!

Asafoetida has health benefits including the reduction digestive problems and bloating and increasing the amount of digestive bacteria. Being anti-inflammatory, it helps prevent heart disease and potentially lower blood pressure. Asafoetida can also act as an asthma relief, as it relaxes the airways to make breathing easier.

Asafoetida is the definite spice to add to your food if you are allergic to onion or garlic and need a close substitute. Value-per-serving is also excellent as only a small amount is needed to enhance the taste of dishes, saving time on preparing a bunch onions and garlic for the same flavour intensity.

Feeling excited to try it out? We proudly carry LG Asafoetida, check it out and create a flavourful dish today!
